Shame Is a Sham

Anytime you feel less-than-worthy or inadequate, take note. It’s the unfortunate result of having been conditioned by well-intentioned but misguided people. Rather than establishing healthy boundaries and enforcing reasonable consequences, shame is often used to control and cajole you into behavior that conforms to somebody’s notion of propriety. Even if the intended objective is laudable, this method of control is damaging and has lasting consequences. Few people exit childhood without baggage from this destructive approach. Pay attention: the next time you notice shame rearing its ugly head, don’t believe it…

It’s a sham.
