Discernment and Judgment

There’s a difference between discernment and judgment. With discernment, we can dislike a certain behavior and recognize the damage it does, but it’s usually unemotional. We may feel a tinge of dislike, slight anger or even disgust, but there’s a sprinkling of understanding and compassion mixed in. When those emotions are strong, we’re most likely projecting a disowned, unconscious behavior of our own out onto another and disliking it out there. If we can catch ourselves, our judgments can serve as effective self-awareness tools. Finding the same characteristic or behavior in ourselves, helps us…

Heal it.
